PREGNANCY CERTIFIED MASSAGE THERAPY

Almost every single female on the Earth will once or more times in their life be in a specific state when their body starts to change to host and comfort a new life in their uterus known as pregnancy. Some hormones will soften the connective tissue around the joints and all this just to prepare passage for a baby on the due date.

Almost every single female on the Earth will once or more times in their life be in a specific state when their body starts to change to host and comfort a new life in their uterus known as pregnancy. Some hormones will soften the connective tissue around the joints and all this just to prepare passage for a baby on the due date.

In second and third trimester will be prominent hyperlordosis, external rotation of the hips to suit size of abdomen, which will impact piriformis and other lateral rotators to shorten and make compression over Sciatic nerve and pain in the low back, glutes and posterior leg will become everyday trouble. Swelling of the hands is not only making a person less mobile but also starts to compress the median nerve in their wrists leading to carpal tunnel syndrome.

Knowing all this is making us as massage therapists responsible to learn and be able to provide pregnancy/prenatal massage on a daily basis.

During the course will be covered anatomy of involved structures as well as assessment of muscles and some special orthopedic tests for TOS, Piriformis syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. Draping of the client during the massage, moving from one to the other position, setting up a rolled towel below the right hip in supine position to prevent hypotension, manual lymphatic drainage for arms and legs will be taught during the course.
